Rodents, Termites, and Peace of Mind

Rodents, Termites, and Peace of Mind 🐜

We were recently called out for a rodent inspection, and our trained eyes quickly spotted the issue—large gaps and entry points around the home where rodents were sneaking in. We were able to tailor a solution to seal up those areas and help prevent future intrusions.

But our job doesn’t stop there.

While performing the inspection, we also noticed something no homeowner ever wants to hear… active termites. As part of every service, we stay alert for anything we’d want addressed at our own homes, and that includes hidden pest threats.

🛑 Termites can cause serious damage, but the good news is: we offer both preventative termite control and active colony treatments to keep your home safe and secure.

Whether it’s pest control, rodent exclusion, moisture issues, or termite protection, we’re here to help.

Red Imported Fire Ant

Fire Ant

This year is showing signs of a very active Fire Ant season. Have you ever suffered a Fire Ant bite? If so you know the unmistakable burn of fire and the intense itching for days following. In some cases the bites will blister up.

Red Imported Fire Ants are thought to have been imported around the 1930’s from South America.

They are an invasive species and extremely aggressive. They can out compete native ant species for resources.

They will sting/attack anyone/thing that disturbs their habitat.

Fire Ant mounds act as a safe entrance and help regulate the temperature and the humidity inside the nest.

If Fire Ants are wreaking havoc in your yard, please reach out to us. We offer a comprehensive fire ant program. As with all of our pest control services you get our commitment to quality and safety every single time!

Termite and Crawl Space Moisture Control

Before
After

Uncontrolled moisture issues under your home can wreak havoc. When moisture levels are to high, it can attract rodents and insects who love to harborage in damp area. This includes Termites. High moisture can lead to the formation of wood decaying Fungis, mildews. If these issues remain untreated it can affect the air quality in your home. Often times insulation that is hanging or has fallen down as shown in the pictures above is the result of uncontrolled moisture in the crawl space. This particular job in the photos above had uncontrolled moisture, fungus, active termites, and falling insulation. We were able to get in there, preform termite job, partial drain, installation of dehumidifier, vapor barrier, and rehang insulation. It is extremely satisfying and a wonderful feeling of accomplishment when we are able to go in and fix these issues for our customers. If you are looking for general pest control, termite control, or moisture control solutions we are only a phone call away!

April showers bring May Flowers and the Termite Swarmers

Eastern Subterranean Termites

Spring is just around the corner, the sun will be shining, flowers begin blooming, insects emerge and are crawling, the termites begin swarming.

What does it mean when termites are swarming?

Unfortunately homeowners often don’t know they have a termite issue until they see swarmers. By the time you have termites swarming there is an established colony somewhere near by that has snuck in quietly and started their destruction. Eastern Subterranean Termites swarm most often in the spring to summer. Swarmers emerge in large plumes to start establishing new colonies. Male and Female swarmers emerge. They will eventually drop their wings and set up shop in a new location where there is moisture and plenty of cellulose to feed on.

So what should you do if Termites are swarming at your home/business? Call a licensed exterminator.

Keep in mind not all insect swarms are actual Termite swarms. Ants will also swarm to form new colonies. Having a licensed exterminator come out and inspect is crucial in resolving and eradicating the issue.

At Hunt Pest Service we take extreme pride in being the best in pest control. We offer free inspections/estimates.

Termites

Pest Control Inspection

Let’s talk Termites:

Termites are crucial decomposers and vital to the health of our forests. They work on breaking down tough plant fibers, and are excellent soil aerators improving soil quality while they tunnel. We run into big costly issues when they begin to eat away at our homes and business. Termites will eat anything cellulose based which just so happens to be the majority of products we use to build with. Having a licensed pest control exterminator perform an inspection on your home and setting up some sort of a treatment/preventative plan is a crucial step in protecting your dwellings/business. It’s estimated that Termite damage in the US costs billions of dollars of damage every year. Most home owners insurance does not cover Termite damage, they label it as an avoidable incident. Pest Control companies usually offer several types of treatment, whether you are dealing with an active colony or looking for preventation, be sure to ask about all available treatments and pricing, When discussing estimates and quotes with a licensed professional make sure they go over any areas in or around the home that are not treatable and why.

A couple quick facts:

  1. Subterranean Termites build their colonies in the soil/underground and construct pathways ( mud tubes as pictured above) to locate other sources of cellulose.
  2. The workers and soldiers are blind.
  3. They use pheromones to communicate.

We offer free inspections at Hunt Pest Service. We are committed to being the best local pest control company!

Unwanted Cold Weather Pests

Lets take a look at two different definitions:

  1. Pest control: refers to the regulation or management of a species defined as a pest, usually because it is perceived to be detrimental to a person’s health, the ecology or the economy.
  2. What is Integrated Pest Management? IPM Techniques (pestworld.org)

As cold weather approaches so does the unwanted pests that try to overwinter in our homes. Theses unwanted pests can tear up insulation, chew into and destroy electrical wiring, and leave foul odors. What is the best way to keep these pests at bay? Using a licensed exterminator to incorporate an Integrated Pest Management Program and Pest Control Program at your home or business is an important key process.

At Hunt Pest Service we are trained professionals and know what to be on the look out for to try and prevent unwelcome pest issues. At each visit we look for any areas of concern and report back to you with suggestions on how you can address the issue. Some key points we see and address a lot is making sure you seal up any cracks or holes around your home, make sure your crawl space doors are fitting properly, and pay close attention to areas where utilities and pipes enter your home. Did you know mice can fit through a hole the size of a dime or even smaller in some cases? Mice and Rats are extremely agile, their rib cage is somewhat collapsible allowing them to maneuver through the tiniest of spaces. Trimming back tree branches and shrubs touching your home will prevent insects and rodents from having a direct bridge link. Keeping areas like attics and basements decluttered and eliminating moisture issues will all help deterring insects from hibernation in your home or business.

Mice, Rats, Spiders, Stink Bugs, Centipedes, Asian Lady Bugs, Cluster Flies, are just a few of the common pests that like to enter our warm homes during the colder months. Stink Bugs usually make their grand appearance around the end of October and start seeking anyplace they can to overwinter in our homes.

We offer a comprehensive Quarterly Pest Control Service that is a great solution to helping you create a barrier around your home and help eliminate pests favorite harborage areas. If you are looking for the best pest and moisture control company in the area, give us a call today.
