Unwanted Cold Weather Pests

Lets take a look at two different definitions:

  1. Pest control: refers to the regulation or management of a species defined as a pest, usually because it is perceived to be detrimental to a person’s health, the ecology or the economy.
  2. What is Integrated Pest Management? IPM Techniques (pestworld.org)

As cold weather approaches so does the unwanted pests that try to overwinter in our homes. Theses unwanted pests can tear up insulation, chew into and destroy electrical wiring, and leave foul odors. What is the best way to keep these pests at bay? Using a licensed exterminator to incorporate an Integrated Pest Management Program and Pest Control Program at your home or business is an important key process.

At Hunt Pest Service we are trained professionals and know what to be on the look out for to try and prevent unwelcome pest issues. At each visit we look for any areas of concern and report back to you with suggestions on how you can address the issue. Some key points we see and address a lot is making sure you seal up any cracks or holes around your home, make sure your crawl space doors are fitting properly, and pay close attention to areas where utilities and pipes enter your home. Did you know mice can fit through a hole the size of a dime or even smaller in some cases? Mice and Rats are extremely agile, their rib cage is somewhat collapsible allowing them to maneuver through the tiniest of spaces. Trimming back tree branches and shrubs touching your home will prevent insects and rodents from having a direct bridge link. Keeping areas like attics and basements decluttered and eliminating moisture issues will all help deterring insects from hibernation in your home or business.

Mice, Rats, Spiders, Stink Bugs, Centipedes, Asian Lady Bugs, Cluster Flies, are just a few of the common pests that like to enter our warm homes during the colder months. Stink Bugs usually make their grand appearance around the end of October and start seeking anyplace they can to overwinter in our homes.

We offer a comprehensive Quarterly Pest Control Service that is a great solution to helping you create a barrier around your home and help eliminate pests favorite harborage areas. If you are looking for the best pest and moisture control company in the area, give us a call today.

Fire Ants

This year has been an unusual year for Fire Ants. The Fire Ant calls typically come in all spring, summer, and fall. Is your yard often covered in Fire Ant mounds but noticing less this year? So here is the scoop, the Fire Ants are not gone, they are still very much there. It has been unusually dry and hot this year. When temperatures are dry and hot the Fire Ants go deeper into the ground to reach cooler temperatures. With Fall approaching, temperatures cooling, and more rain in the forecast you will begin to see the mounds popping back out of the surface again. They will begin foraging more and you will notice increased activity.
